Israel launched a deadly strike in the heart of Doha, targeting Hamas leaders inside Qatar, the nation brokering delicate ceasefire talks for Gaza.
The unprecedented attack has set off a diplomatic firestorm, with hostage negotiations now teetering on the brink of collapse. Hamas confirmed five members were killed, though its top negotiators escaped the assassination attempt.
A Qatari security officer was also killed, marking the first time Israeli fire has claimed the life of a Qatari official on home soil. The backlash was immediate US President Donald Trump blasted the move, calling it “not a good situation” and warning he would issue a full response on Wednesday.
Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani raged against Israel, branding the strike “state terrorism” and denouncing Prime Minister Netanyahu as a “narcissist” who carried out a “treacherous” act.
While vowing that Qatar’s tradition of diplomacy will continue, Al-Thani admitted the current ceasefire talks may now be unworkable: “After such an attack, there is nothing left on the table.”
Israel’s ambassador in Washington doubled down, declaring Hamas leaders will be hit again “next time.”
